The Arts
The Arts are woven into the fabric of life at Cothill
The Arts at Cothill offer every pupil the chance to explore their creativity and discover new ways to express themselves.
From Music, Speech and Drama to Art, Ceramics, Design Technology and Woodwork, the opportunities to create, perform, and build are endless. These experiences foster confidence, imagination, teamwork, and a sense of achievement that stays with pupils for life.
Creative Arts
Art, Ceramics, Woodwork, and DT are at the heart of the school’s creative spirit. Pupils are inspired by a wide range of artists, designers, and cultures, and learn through hands-on experiences that combine traditional techniques with new technologies. Studios remain open outside of lessons, encouraging independent projects, collaboration, and experimentation in a supportive environment.
Speech and Drama
Speech and Drama is a popular and inclusive part of life at Cothill, supporting creative and personal growth. Over half of pupils in Years 5 to 8 take part, with Years 3 and 4 enjoying weekly timetabled lessons. Following the LAMDA syllabus, students explore acting, public speaking, poetry, and musical theatre. Regular recitals, exams, and whole-school productions build confidence and self-expression, helping even the most reluctant performers discover a love of theatre.
Music
Music is at the heart of Cothill, with over 75% of pupils learning an instrument and many going on to win scholarships or join junior conservatoires. All pupils study music in the curriculum, including group tuition, on violin and recorder in year 4, and orchestral instrument rotations in year 5. Ensembles include Orchestra, Jazz Band, and three choirs. The Chapel Choir sings weekly and performs regularly, both nationally and on international tours. The year culminates in Rockhill, our summer music festival celebrating the talent and passion of our young musicians.
