Yes, absolutely. Flexi-boarding is available for a maximum of 3 nights or less. For 4 or more nights, please contact the school office – office@cothill.org.uk.

Ad Hoc boarding can be requested via Jane in the front office or by emailing the relevant Houseparent. 

Children can start boarding at Cothill from the age of 8. We understand that boarding is a significant step for younger pupils, which is why we provide a warm, supportive environment where children quickly feel settled, confident and at home.

Our youngest boarders are cared for by a dedicated junior boarding team who understand the needs of younger children. They provide consistent pastoral care, establish reassuring routines, and ensure every child feels safe, happy and supported as they develop independence and enjoy all that boarding life has to offer.

With boarders from Year 4 to Year 8, routines vary slightly by age. In our Junior Boarding House, Bowlers, timings are adapted for younger pupils, while older boarders follow a more independent schedule.

All boarders begin the day with wake-up time, allowing plenty of time to get dressed, make beds, and prepare for the day. Matrons are on hand to support pupils, and houses are rewarded for being ready quickly and neatly. After a check from houseparents, boarders head to breakfast from 7:30am.

After school and prep, boarders gather for tea before taking part in the Cothill Activity Programme (CAPs), with a wide range of activities chosen each term.

Later, pupils return to their boarding houses, hand in laundry, change into pyjamas, and enjoy time together in the games room, including supper and organised activities with houseparents. The day ends with 30 minutes of silent reading in dorms before lights out.

It’s a busy routine, but full of fun, structure, and community.

The weekend routine can be a little different to that in the week. There are still lessons on a Saturday, but only in the morning as we have matches after lunch. This means there is a chance to sleep in a little later on a Saturday. Sundays give the boarders a chance to relax and spend time having fun. There are plenty of trips for boarders to go on which are shared with parents when pupils return to school.

New boarders are supported from the moment they arrive through assigned boarding buddies who help guide them as they settle into life in boarding. Each child is also provided with a “boarding survival guide,” before they start offering clear and practical information about daily routines and the boarding experience. Consistent care and oversight are provided by dedicated boarding staff for each year group, helping to build strong relationships and continuity of support throughout a student’s journey. A rich programme of weekly and weekend activities enables students to stay active, develop new interests, and form lasting friendships through shared experiences.
